One of my clients, Marty, recently had a huge win. He went to his physician for a regularly scheduled check-up. Once they got through the initial screens and everything, the doctor asked him about his current activity level. Since all of the markers were off the charts positive, naturally the doctor wanted to know more. Marty responded by saying: “Well, my wife and I eat pretty healthy, we play pickleball a couple times a week, I go to group fitness classes once per week, and I recently started doing personal training.” No medicine, no magic pills, and something everyone can manage, especially in retirement. The real takeaway I want you to leave with is the fact that he is staying active when most Americans would slow down and move less. Marty and his wife are continuing to add life to their years, in a time when most people his age would become more dependent on their kids and medical professionals.
I will say that being retired does allow for more freedom of choice and adds time to your days, but you could just as easily become less active. Nobody would blame you. They are truly inspiring and a perfect example of how staying active as you age can have numerous benefits. Marty will probably say his wife is leading the way for them and making most of the food and activity choices. That does not take away from the fact that he is doing the work and is reaping the benefits. Having your doctor take up most of your meeting learning from what you are doing, you know you are doing something right. Marty you are an inspiration to many and I am grateful to be playing a small role as you continue your fitness journey. Thank you for choosing FA Fitness Studio. The progress you have made in here has been awesome to witness.
