Find Your Superpower

We all have something we are good at. We may not be the best in the world, but out of all the things we do, one thing reigns supreme. You may not know what that is for you, but I’ll bet your friends do. They probably call on you to do it and you don’t even think about it. Or maybe you do know but hide it for some reason. This is your permission to show off your superpower.

For me, the earliest example I have is when I was about 12 years old. My dad was in a bowling league so every Thursday night we would drive to the bowling alley. My sister and I would mostly play in the arcade or watch whatever movie was playing. One day we were driving there, I looked at a building I thought was a high level university. I pointed it out to my mom saying “I want to go there one day.” I later found out that was Lane Tech High School, so I took the test and they accepted me. Little did I know what saying “I went to Lane Tech” would mean.

There have been dozens of examples since then. The longest “wait” was about 13 years ago when I said I would own my own gym one day. I didn’t know where, I didn’t know when, I wasn’t sure what it would look like (that’s changed so many times over the years), and I definitely didn’t know how I’d do it. So I took the first step and got certified as a personal trainer, that quickly led to my first training job. Fast forward 10 years, I opened FA Fitness Studio in Blowing Rock, NC.

Those 10 years shaped my way of thinking, taught me some huge life lessons, and turned me into the trainer I am now. I have learned from so many people at this point and continue to learn everyday. While the how, where, when, what may have changed, the why and the goal never faltered. I got into this to help people live healthier lives and become better versions of themselves, whatever that may look like.

I say all of that to say this: we all have a superpower. We are all good at something. It may not be obvious to you at first, but trust me, those around you see it. People know what I say I’m going to do, I’ll do it. I’ll leave you with this from Luke Combs: “I’d still be doin this, if I wasn’t doin this.”
